Ayilyam Pooja

अयिल्यम पूजा | ಆಯಿಲ್ಯಂ ಪೂಜೆ (ಆಶ್ಲೇಷಾ ನಕ್ಷತ್ರ)

Special poojas dedicated to the Naga Devatas

Ashlesha (Ayilyam) Nakshatra each month When: Ashlesha (Ayilyam) Nakshatra

What this group includes

3 poojas, performed together

Ayilyam day is one of the most powerful monthly observances at our temple — sacred to the Nagas and Lord Subramanya. Three ritual offerings happen together: Noorum Palum (milk + flour abhishekam), Ayilya Pooja (the formal devotional rite), and Manjal Abhishekam (turmeric anointing). Devotees attend for family blessings, Sarpa Dosha remedies, and the Nagas' grace for prosperity + lineage.

Noorum Palum

Milk + jaggery + flour offering to Naga deities

Noorum Palum (ಪಾಲುಂ ನೂರುಂ | നൂറും പാലും — 'flour and milk') is the keystone Naga offering on Ashlesha (Ayilyam) nakshatra. A paste of rice flour + jaggery + milk is poured over the Naga vigraha — a serene offering to the serpent guardians. Particularly powerful for those observing Sarpa Dosha remedies or seeking the Nagas' blessings for family wellbeing.

Ayilya Pooja

Monthly Naga & Subramanya observance on Ashlesha star

Ayilya Pooja (ಆಯಿಲ್ಯಂ ಪೂಜೆ (ಆಶ್ಲೇಷಾ ನಕ್ಷತ್ರ) | आयिल्य पूजा) is the formal devotional rite performed on Ashlesha (Ayilyam) nakshatra each month — sacred to the Nagas and to Lord Subramanya. Devotees attend for family prosperity, fertility blessings, and remedies for Sarpa Dosha and Kuja Dosha. The pooja includes archana, dhupam, deeparadhana, and a special prasada offering.

Manjal Abhishekam

Turmeric abhishekam for Bhagavati / Naga deities

Manjal Abhishekam (ಅರಿಶಿನ ಅಭಿಷೇಕ | हल्दी अभिषेक | മഞ്ഞൾ അഭിഷേകം — 'turmeric abishekam') is the sacred turmeric-paste anointing of the deity, traditionally performed for Bhagavati and the Nagas. The cooling, healing properties of turmeric are offered to the deity with chants — a particularly auspicious abhishekam on Ayilyam day.

What is Ayilyam Pooja?

Ayilyam is the Malayalam name for Ashlesha — the 9th nakshatra in the lunar zodiac, presided over by the Nagas (serpent deities). Each Malayalam month, when the moon transits Ashlesha, devotees perform a sacred sequence of three offerings for the Nagas’ blessings:

  1. Noorum Palum — the milk + flour abhishekam
  2. Ayilya Pooja — the formal Ayilyam Pooja
  3. Manjal Abhishekam — the turmeric anointing

Together, these are the complete Ayilyam programme at Sree Ayyappa Temple, Yeshwanthpur.

Who should observe Ayilyam Pooja?

  • Families seeking the Nagas’ grace for prosperity, fertility, and lineage protection
  • Devotees observing Sarpa Dosha remedies under astrological guidance
  • Those with Kuja (Mars) afflictions — the Naga remedy is among the traditional prescriptions
  • Devotees born under Ashlesha, Jyeshtha, or Revati nakshatras
  • Anyone seeking healing for chronic family illness — Manjal Abhishekam is sought specifically for healing intentions

When is the next Ayilyam?

The exact date shifts each month based on the Malayalam panchangam. See the Events listing for the upcoming Ayilyam Pooja event — each month’s observance is published as its own event with the exact date, time, and any sponsorship information.
